5 DIY Natural Hair Care Treatments

We love spicing up our hair care routine, and trying out natural hair treatments is a quarantine activity that we can get on board with. While the R+Co Television Mask is our go-to product hair care treatment any day of the week, it’s fun to utilize natural ingredients found in your home to give your hair a little love. Try these summer favorites for a fresh twist on hair care.

Avocado Hair Mask

If you’re like us, you probably put avocado on everything. You can actually put it on your hair too. Avocado contains oils and proteins that can provide your hair with a moisture boost in about 15 minutes. Just mash half an avocado in a small bowl and add a few drops of essential oil. Peppermint oil is a great option. Shampoo and rinse your hair, lightly squeeze out excess water, and apply the mask. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse! Your hair will be left soft and moisturized.

Banana Hair Mask

If you want another alternative from your kitchen produce selection, bananas are nutrient-packed for moisturizing your hair and relieving dry scalp. Blend one ripe banana with a quarter cup of coconut milk. Massage banana mixture into hair and scalp. Leave it on for about 30 minutes then wash!

Optional: Blend the rest of the coconut milk, another banana, and some ice. Pour it in a cup and enjoy your smoothie while you wait. 🙂

Coconut Oil Treatment

Coconut oil is the swiss army knife of your beauty routine. You only need a small amount (about a tablespoon) of coconut oil in a liquid state. It will usually melt in your hand but you could also warm it in the microwave. Apply to the ends of damp hair. You can leave it on overnight and wash it out in the morning.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

For a boost of shine, combine a tablespoon of vinegar with half a cup of water and pour it over damp hair. Comb it through your hair, let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing. The ACV will help clarify hair and smooth cuticles leaving your hair silky and shiny.

Lemon + Olive Oil Scalp Massage

If your scalp is a little dry, try a scalp massage using a mixture of lemon juice and olive oil. Mix together 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and two tablespoons of water. Massage into a damp scalp. Leave on for 20 minutes before shampooing it out. The acidity of the lemons will exfoliate dry skin and the olive oil brings moisture back into the skin.
